Please welcome Marion Hodges as one of our new TK teachers at Pennekamp! She brings over six years of dedicated experience working with young children across preschool, Head Start, and TK settings, with a passion for guiding students as they learn, explore, and grow every day. Outside of the classroom, she stays active by playing and teaching tennis, engaging in the community, enjoying the outdoors, and spending time with her family.

She comes to us with over two decades of experience working with children, including 11 years at Manhattan Beach Preschool, serving as both a classroom and STEAM teacher. Having recently earned her PK–3 Early Childhood Education Specialist Credential, she is eager to launch this exciting new chapter. At home, she enjoys hiking, reading, cheering on the Dodgers and Packers, and spending time with her husband and 13-year-old daughter.

We are so lucky to welcome Liz Cebula full-time to the Pennekamp staff as a kindergarten teacher! With 15 years of prior teaching experience spanning TK through 4th grade, as well as a successful year long-term subbing in TK on our campus, she brings wonderful expertise back into the classroom. Outside of school, she stays busy with her husband of 25 years and their three children, enjoying days at the beach, reading, and cheering on her daughter at soccer and flag football games.

Today, we are excited to highlight Paige Ackerman, a wonderful addition to our 1st grade team! After earning a Master of Education from UCLA this past June, she steps into her second year of teaching 1st grade right here in the South Bay community where she grew up. When she is not in the classroom, she enjoys writing, reading, playing pickleball, walking her dog Daisy, and spending time with loved ones.

We are thrilled to kickoff our New PK Teacher Spotlight Week by welcoming Ms. Aguiar to our 5th grade team! She brings 12 years of valuable teaching experience across Kindergarten, 3rd grade and 5th grade. Outside the classroom, she loves exploring our city, diving into a great book, enjoying good food, and spending quality time with her family. E-Bike Safety Certification Registration is Now Open!
MBUSD students in grades 4–12 who ride an e-bike to school are invited to register for the District's 2026–2027 E-Bike Safety Certification classes. These sessions are designed to promote safe riding habits and provide students with the certification required to receive an MBUSD e-bike sticker. Classes will be held at Manhattan Beach Middle School on Saturday, August 22 and Saturday, August 29. Three class sessions are available each day. Space is limited to 25 students per session, and registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Students should bring:
A street-legal e-bike with pedals
Student ID
Helmet
Comfortable clothing and sneakers
Please register using the QR code on the attached flyer to reserve your preferred session. We encourage families to sign up early, as sessions are expected to fill quickly.
As we close out another amazing school year, we want to thank our students, families, staff, and community for making 2025-26 one to remember. Hello Pennekamp families! Looking ahead to the 2026–27 school year, we want to share that the Board of Trustees recently approved a new elementary bell schedule designed to create greater consistency across schools, improve campus safety, and support a stronger start to the instructional day.
Beginning next year, all elementary schools — including Pennekamp — will start at 8:15 a.m., with staggered end times. Students across all elementary schools will also have consistent instructional, recess, and lunch minutes by grade level, including a daily 20-minute recess and a 45-minute lunch period on regular school days.
These updates will also support campus safety by helping schools establish a closed campus at the start of the day and better secure campus access points. Families can review the approved schedule using the link below. We look forward to another great year with our Pennekamp Dragons!
